The Service Évangélique des Malades (ministry to the sick)

“I was sick and you visited me” (Mt 25:36).

The SEM is a service of the parish community. Priests, religious sisters, deacons and lay people, in the name of the Gospel, take care to be present to people who are sick, disabled, or elderly and isolated at home. They are available for friendly visits, to pray with them if they wish, and also to bring them Holy Communion.

It is up to each of us to be “watchmen”, to notice those we no longer see at church or in the neighbourhood. For these people tend to withdraw and ask for nothing, for fear of being a bother.

The SEM is a team whose members meet to pray for the sick, listen to the Word of God and receive training.

The SEM is the link between the parish and the sick, the hospital chaplaincy, clinics and retirement homes.

The SEM is at the service of everyone, whatever their age, illness, disability or beliefs.
