The diocesan catechism of the Saint-Maurice parish is for primary school children, from CP to CM2 (ages 6 to 11).
The 13 sessions, set out in a yearly calendar, take place on Saturdays from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm in the parish rooms at 14 rue René de Prie, followed by the Family Mass at 6.30 pm in Saint-Pierre-Ville church.
The children meet in age groups, from CP onwards for the awakening to faith. They prepare for their First Communion, and baptism is also offered.
They take an active part in the Family Mass that follows each session: the boys can serve at the altar and the girls can be readers. They are then given a missal so that they can prepare the readings of the day more closely. Every year the children also take part in the gathering days organised for the whole diocese.
The Word of God is at the heart of the sessions, which follow the liturgical year and foster an initiation into prayer and an inner journey. The reference books used are those recommended by the Diocesan Catechesis Service: « Promesse de Dieu », published by Bayard (in French).
